25 Jun 2023

Leading Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineering consultancy, Whitecode Consulting, is delighted to announce it has been shortlisted for the London Construction Awards 2023 in the ‘Engineering Consultant of the Year,’ ‘Women in Construction’ and ‘Excellence in Sustainability – Project’ award categories.

Whitecode Consulting is being recognised as a leading MEP consultancy by the London Construction Awards, making the shortlist for the prestigious ‘Engineering Consultant of the Year’ accolade. Additionally, Ellen Huelin, Director of Sustainability at Whitecode Consulting has been named a finalist for the incredible ‘Women in Construction Award’, reflecting how she champions the role of women in construction. The consultancy has also been recognised for its sustainable engineering solutions on the Canada Water regeneration project, becoming a finalist for the sought-after ‘‘Excellence in Sustainability – Project’ award.

Whitecode Consulting is proud to be in the running for the ‘Engineering Consultant of the Year Award’ which celebrates firms that demonstrate exceptional service in their field and provide first-class service and results to clients. In 2023, in addition to a sustained trajectory of client satisfaction, Alex’s strategy as Managing Director has focused on launching Whitecode’s core values to set professional ethical standards for the business to align with, as well as a continued investment in the CIBSE Training and Development and Apprenticeship Schemes within Whitecode.

Commenting on why the company deserves to win, Alex Hill said: “My objective has been to grow Whitecode to the best multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in the UK. By being passionate about our industry, investing in our staff and investing in the future generation we are not only able to support our business but also the industry. In 28 years, Whitecode has trained a total of 60 engineers. We deserve to win because we have the best engineers, delivering the best building services and continue to impart this knowledge to ensure a strong future for the industry.”

Director of Sustainability, Ellen Huelin has been named a finalist for the ‘Women in Construction Award’. This award category celebrates the outstanding contributions made by a company or individual, championing the important role of women in construction. Whitecode Consulting has proven how Ellen is advocating for equality and actively driving change within the workplace through industry contributions, representation, diversity and inclusion, mentorship and advocacy, innovation and professional development.

Commenting on the role of women in construction, Ellen said, “Women have so much to offer MEP and at Whitecode we don’t see a distinction because of gender. More to the point, women shouldn’t have to justify their talents because women aren’t traditionally thought of as engineers – we are equal, so I have a sense of duty as a Director to facilitate women within the industry who may have been overlooked for being female.”

Moreover, Whitecode Consulting is pleased to have been shortlisted for the ‘Excellence in Sustainability – Project Award’ for its work on the Canada Water regeneration project. Whitecode worked on the mixed-use development comprising 186 apartments, retail space at ground level and commercial space from levels one to five. Whitecode was chosen to provide comprehensive MEP designs from Stage 5 in Building Information Modelling (BIM). Whitecode worked with the client to devise an energy strategy, with considerations towards sustainability by incorporating measures to prevent overheating, National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) assessments, BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Energy Assessment), and the Home Quality Mark (HQM) assessment into this project’s scope.

Taking place on 22nd September 2023, the London Construction Awards is a highly-anticipated evening of entertainment and celebration for the construction sector at Novotel London West. Guests are looking forward to the black-tie event which will include a drinks reception and three-course dinner followed by a comedy set and an awards ceremony hosted by multi-award winning, global smash-hit comedian Dom Joly.
